Tinted window film has for long been the chosen solar control option for vehicle, car and office building, due to its smart appearance and exceptional heat and glare reduction properties. Window tinting is often specified to reduce the amount of visible light and glare which can affect staff working on computers, and cause headaches and loss of productivity. Our window tinting film can also be used in a home or residential setting as an affordable alternative to net curtains and window blinds, and is ideal for hot glass conservatories where excess heat and glare are often an issue. Another benfit of window tint is the way it also protects against UV rays which are the main cause of fading of valuable furnishings, carpets and wooden floors.

Internal or external tinted window film

External films are supper efficient especially when applied on double glazed units as they stop the heat from building up within the pane. The only drawback is that if the lifespan will be less than with internallly fitted films. If applying glass tinting film to a double glazed unit, there are a few considerations. On older units which are not made of toughened glass, it is recommended to apply a medium grade internal film, or an external film. This is to prevent the glass from overheating and potentially cracking.

Applying window tinting film

Tinted film is a self adhesive material applied using a soapy water solution and a squeegee, making bubbles a thing of the past. When installing externally, make sure you do it on a dry day with little wind. For ease of installation, we recommend you order the film cut to size, especially when covering a number of smaller panes. We use a computer driven cutting tool with accuracy of 0.5mm.

Frequently Asked Questions
  • Does window tinting block out light?

Tinted films are designed to reduce glare and as such will block out some of the light to achieve a comfortable home or work environment. Excess glare can make it difficult to view a television or computer screen, and can cause headaches and lack of productivity at work. Window film is see through and therefore doesn't affect the view when looking through the glass. You might find that you have a similar product in your car as the technology and principle is the same.

  • Does tinted window film reduce heat?

As a rule, reflective films are the most efficient at controlling excess heat as they both absorb and reflect excess heat. With regards to tinted films, the dark film is better at reducing heat, and for double glazed units exterior grade films are the most efficient as they stop the heat building up between the panes.

  • Which is the best window tint film?

As a rule, we recommend the darker films for south-facing windows, where the sun is harsher for most of the day. East facing windows will be exposed in the morning when the sun is low, and west-facing windows in the afternoon and evenings when the sun is high but brighter. North facing windows shouldn't be too affected by the sun. So for windows which are not exposed to the sun throughout the day, a dark film might not be the best option.

For double glazed units, it is worth noting that the darker films are not suitable on units where the glass is not toughened or tempered. If that's the case, we recommend a medium tinting film or alternatively an external grade window film.
